Is HSDPA and WCDMA the same thing regarding mobile phones?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070818192619AA9qO6R

Nokia says that their 6300 is a WCDMA phone and 6120 is a HSDPA phone. Are Both Same?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

HSDPA provides a smooth evolutionary path for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks allowing for higher data capacity. It is an evolution of the W-CDMA standard, designed to increase the available data rate by a factor of 5 or more. HSDPA defines a new W-CDMA channel, the high-speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) that operates in a different way from existing W-CDMA channels, but is only used for downlink communication to the mobile

HSDPA is compatible with EDGE and is fully backwards compatible with WCDMA, and enterprise and rich multimedia applications developed for WCDMA will work with HSDPA. Most UMTS vendors support HSDPA.

I copied these statements from the website listed below. Hope it answers your question.

HSPDA vs WCDMA

http://www.windmobile.ca/community/ideas/detail/33901/

2 months, 2 weeks ago

WCDMA, UMTS, HSPA, HSDPA, HSUPD, HSPA+... They are all the same thing for most practical purposes. The data speeds gets faster as you go from left to right. They are are all forward and backwards compatible. Think of it as USB1.0, USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3. You can use a HSPA handset on WCDMA network, but your data speeds will be limited.
WIND currently supports speeds up to HSDPA 7.2. You can use HSPA+ device, it just won't be able to download data faster than 7.2Mbps. You can also use WCDMA/UTMS handsets, just at slower speeds (300Kbps).

WCDMA and HSDPA?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080105044324AAcltTR

WCDMA and HSDPA?
I bought a new mobile phone, and it happens that it only supports 3G (WCDMA).

I am currently living in Canada, Toronto.
I heard that HSDPA is more powerful than WCDMA, and HSDPA is covered in Toronto. Does it mean my phone shouldbe be able to work, since HSDPA is fully backward compatible with WCDMA?

Thanks!

I think you are getting things a bit mixed up. WCDMA (or Wideband CDMA) is a technological term used to describe so called '3G' cellular services. Despite the naming convention, WCDMA doesn't necessarilly only work with CDMA technology (CDMA is the technology that Verizon and Sprint use in the US; AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM) -- although there are some CDMA services that could be considered WCDMA.

One version of WCDMA is the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) which in fact is the WCDMA technology used by AT&T/Cingular and I believe by Rogers in Toronto as well. The underlying technology used by AT&T's and Roger's UMTS is High Speed Downlink Packet Access or HSDPA. Thus if you have an HSDPA compatible device you are in fact using WCDMA technology. I know, its a confusing alphabet soup, but that is the nature of telecom services unfortunately.

So in answer to your question what you need to do is find out if your device is an HSDPA compatible device. But I would think that it is because that I am aware of the only WCDMA services available in Canada at this time are in fact the UMTS/HSDPA services offered by Rogers. Most HSDPA devices are backwards compatible and in the case of AT&T/Rogers I believe this would mean the device would be able to utilize other GSM services like EDGE and GPRS when HSDPA services are not available. But that can vary depending on the carrier, so check with the provider to be sure.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

http://dqaria.com/playit/no-seo.html

http://www.001pp.com/sousuoyinqingyouhua/31337.html

80 Essential iPhone Apps for Small Business

http://enterprisemobiletoday.com/features/otherapps/print.php/3922656

Mobile Download Guide: 80 Essential iPhone Apps for Small Business By James Alan Miller January 28, 2011

The ever-expanding smartphone and mobile application market, as with the economy at large, depends on the support of small business to keep the engine of growth running smoothly. You could say--as we often hear from politicians regarding the country in general---America's legion of small, privately-owned companies are the foundation upon which the continued success of the wireless sector stands.

For Apple, it may have been consumers that first launched the iPhone into the stratosphere, but it is Steve Jobs and company's flagship product's growing adoption by business, particularly the millions of smaller ones, that will keep it, if not on top--Google's Android platform is quickly catching up and RIM's BlackBerry isn't going anywhere--then near the summit of today's unprecedented mobile device boom.

Like other mobile device manufacturers and software developers, Apple knows this of course. It would be imprudent, if not downright foolish of them to ignore the combined buying power of small businesses. That's why so many vendors in the wireless sector, Apple included, take the mobile computing needs of smaller companies so seriously when developing new products and marketing plans. And it is one reason why the 300,000-strong App Store contains tens of thousands of applications capable of helping the owners and employees of proverbial mom-and-pop establishments run their companies and get the most out of their iPhones--whether or not the apps in question were even targeted in their direction in the first place.

BizExpense.jpg

In this article, we've done the heavily lifting to help you decide what apps to install on your iPhone(s). We have sifted through the App Store with a fine tooth comb, distilling our list down to 80 essentials. As with previous articles in our series on great iPhone apps, every program listed below won't meet the needs of every small business operator, of course. They simply can't.

After all, as it sometimes appears, there are nearly as many different types of small businesses (i.e. medical and legal practices, accountants, dry cleaners, pharmacies, coffee houses, independent booksellers, restaurants, decorators, retail stores, franchises, etc.) as people running them, with each type and sub-type--let alone individual owners and employees--having their own unique mobile requirements. Most readers will find plenty of applications to help them better perform the mobile (and not so mobile) tasks at hand, however.
